Why It Matters

Family Promise of Greater Cleveland’s mission is to provide families facing the crisis of homelessness with a safe place designed to engage, inspire, and guide them toward a future where they feel empowered to control the course of their lives.

Our vision is to transform families and break the cycle of generational homelessness.

Family Promise of Greater Cleveland upholds the commitments to the Sanctuary® Model and believes that the following commitments are important in accomplishing our mission and fulfilling our vision:‍ ‍

1. Emotional intelligence—teaching individuals to understand, manage, and express their ‍emotions in healthy ways.‍

2. Non-violence—we are committed to ensuring safety--physical, psychological, social, and moral—for all.

‍3. Growth and Change—recognizing the importance of growth and change in individuals and organizations, and actively seeking ways to learn, improve, and evolve.

‍4. Social responsibility—fostering a sense of social responsibility in individuals by emphasizing the impact of their actions on others.

5. Social learning—promoting positive behaviors and interactions through modeling, coaching, and reinforcement.

‍6. Open Communication—all members of the community are encouraged to use their voice, even when there are difficult things to discuss encouraging honesty and clarity in communication, which builds trust.‍

7. Democracy—promoting shared decision-making and mutual respect among all ‍Individuals.
